Lindinger patented hull

Ship owners and investors worldwide are facing major challenges in the shipping industry. The future brings rising fuel costs, which account for the majority of operating costs. The challenges of environmental protection, starting with “IMO 2020”, EEDI and CII are now forcing ship owners to invest heavily while the profit margins are low.

The link between fuel savings and environmental compliance is the key to be successfully competitive in shipping and generate sustainable future prospects for ship owners.

The inventor and patent holder

Roland Lindinger has been meeting the challenges of environmental protection and high fuel consumption in shipping since 1997. Since then, he has carried out tests, trials and feasibility studies, taking into account other related core areas of fluid mechanics and physics.

The result is the “Patented Hull Lindinger”, which has proven to be the best solution after many designs and tests at institutes. The Lindinger Hull works on all commercially available ship types and sizes, semi-gliding as well as displacement hulls and achieves fuel savings of up to approx. 10%.

The basic idea behind the Lindinger Patented Hull is to combine economy and ecology and to protect the environment for future generations.

The ecology of AFT OPT®

Saving energy and thus avoiding emissions (NOx/CO2) will become increasingly necessary in the future in order to ensure the economically viable ship operation.

  • Ship owners are forced to retrofit their fleets with scrubbers in order to be allowed to sail and enter ports or must use more expensive fuel alternatively
  • The development of alternative propulsion systems or energy systems is cost-intensive.
  • Cost-intensive sulphur and soot particle filters are necessary.
  • additional operating costs due to increased environmental protection requirements
  • Slow-steaming to reduce fuel consumption results in lower service frequency, less voyage round trips.
  • avoidance of the purchase of emission certificates
  • further tightening of environmental regulations on pollutant emissions

The patented Lindinger hull saves up to approx. 10% fuel through AFT OPT® (aft ship optimisation) and brings additional synergy effects in engine maintenance, emission protection and vibration reduction.

The result is a reduction in all relevant ship emissions.

Economy becomes the driver of ecology!

The economics of the patent

Savings per ship: In terms of operating costs, the calculation changes significantly as direct operating costs – here for example heavy fuel oil (IFO380) – account for up to 70 % of the total OPEX of a ship.
